A Russian-American screenwriter, born on December 25, 1888 in the Russian Empire. She graduated with a law degree from New York University. She won an Oscar in 1956 for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay for Interrupted Melody. Among her notable works are State Fair, The Great Caruso, and Oklahoma!. She died on March 19, 1960 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA.
