An Iraqi writer, born in Baghdad, where he studied English literature. He left Iraq during the First Gulf War and moved between many countries before settling in London, where he studied film directing. He directed three short feature films and a series of documentaries, including Between Two Times, The Twenty-Fifth Hour, and Five Faces. He returned to Iraq in 2003 and directed many films such as Hell and Paths of Freedom. One of his most important works is the film The Silence of the Shepherd (2013).
