A Hungarian actress, born in Nagydorog, Hungary on January 9, 1898. Vilma Bánky received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. She married the American actor Rod La Rocque (1927-1969) and remained with him until his death. She is best known for her roles in The Eagle (1925), The Winning of Barbara (1926), The Son of the Sheik (1926), and The Awakening (1928). After she finished her secondary school, Bánky tried to work as a stenographer, but was offered to act in a film. Bánky appeared in Austrian, Hungarian and French silent films. She signed a contract to work in Hollywood, where she was called "The Hungarian Rhapsody" and made huge profits for Samuel Goldwyn. She died in Los Angeles, California, USA on March 18, 1991 from cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest.
