Scottish actor born on 20 August 1943 in Scotland. He was born to an Irish mother and an English father, he was raised primarily in Dunoon where he attended St Moon's School. He then studied for the priesthood at Blair College, a study institute in Aberdeen, but dropped out of it and continued his education at Dunoon Grammar School. After leaving school he moved to London where he worked in the insurance industry for five years. He worked in the ring box office, where he was discovered by Ken Campbell. He made his debut in 1979 with Slumber film. Among his works: Doctor Who (1996), The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot (2013) and The Hobbit, The Battle of the Five Armies (2014).
