An American actor, born on February 10, 1905 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. He attended Brown University then worked as an economist at the US State Department. He joined the American Red Cross in 1941 and served in Great Britain during the war. There, he met director John Huston, who recommended him a job in Hollywood after the war. Instead, he went to work for the US Treasury, which sent him to Hollywood to work as a technical advisor on the films End of the Earth and Orson Welles. He appeared in a number of classic American films, where he participated in Shane, Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He died on January 8, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
