After a commercial photographer saw her riding in a carriage in Paris, she quickly became a model for Christian Dior and Givenchy. She made her film debut in Rendezvous in July (1949), then went on to appear in several French and Italian films. Her first leading role was in Song Without End (1960). In the 1960s, she appeared in several films, including two starring William Holden, with whom she had an affair for two years. She later returned to Europe, residing in Switzerland, and continued her film work. Her first TV appearance was in 1972, and in the 1980s, she focused on TV work. She died on March 17, 1990, jumping from her eighth-floor apartment in Lausanne, Switzerland.
