A Romanian-born American actor, born in Timisoara, Romania, as Josef Bromberger. He married Goldie Doberman in 1927 and had 3 children. He often played the characters of immigrants to America and received great respect and appreciation from his peers. He was a founding member of a group theater. Bloomberg was born to a Jewish family. He was 11 months old when he immigrated with his parents to America. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at New York City College for two years and then he got a job to pay for the acting lessons he took. He appeared for the first time on Broadway in 1926. He debuted with Fox in the film Under Two Flags (1936) and continued his work in major supporting roles in many films. In 1950, he was accused of being a communist by the McCarthy Committee and was ordered to appear before the Un-American Activities Committee in the US House of Representatives. But he used his right to refuse to answer questions, so all studios blacklisted him, and he could no longer appear in films, so he left for Britain, and the shock affected his health, so he died of a heart attack while working in a play in London, at the age of 48, on December 6, 1951.
