American actor born in Ossining, New York on 20 January 1916. He studied at Feagin School of Dramatic Arts and began working in professional theater in 1938 and appeared on Broadway. After WWII he returned and became a member of Lee Strasberg's studio and worked with Elia Kazan...Read more and returned to Broadway until he was discovered by Universal Studios in the early 1950s and appeared in supporting roles in films like The Sleeping City (1950), Tomahawk (1951), and Meet Danny Wilson (1952). His most notable works were The Redhead from Wyoming (1953), The Man from Laramine (1955), Great Day in the Morning (1956), The Screaming Scull (1958), and The Wild Wild West (1967-1968). His last appearance was on Ape (1976). He retired in 1987. He married Jean Fleming and had 3 children and she remained with him until he died on 9 July 2001 in California, USA.
