British actress known for her work in British theater. Additionally, she appeared in lots of films and is a three-time Academy Award nominee. Her most notable roles are Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest (on stage and in the 1952 film adaptation of the same name) and Mrs. Western in Tom Jones (1963), she also played a different character in The Whisperers (1967).
