He is the editor-in-chief of his website and company, Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun. He and author Haruki Murakami worked on the 1981 short story collection Yume de Aimashou (Let's meet in a dream). He made his acting debut in the 2010 movie adaptation of Haruki Murakami's novel Norwegian Wood, in which he played the role of a professor.
