An American character actor, born in Salem, Oregon, USA, on November 3, 1923, as Leonard Steinbock. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and also at Willamette University. In 1964, he married Carole H. Kleinman, and they had four children. He is known for Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), Soylent Green (1973), I Spy (1968), and Getting Straight (1970). He was nominated for a Tony Award in 1957 and won it in 1959 for Best Supporting Actor in Redhead. He died on November 2, 2011, in Encinitas, California, USA.
