American film and television director, born in Minneapolis and educated at St. Thomas College in St. Paul. After working briefly in the production of feature films, he won an award from the New York Film Festival after his university assigned him to make a recruiting film. Hence, he entered the commercial industry, first as a producer and then as a director. Throughout his career, he directed more than 850 television commercials and five documentaries. He then established his own production company called Departure Films. In 1991, he won the Golden Lion at the Cannes Film Festival for a commercial he directed for the YMCA. He also directed a number of works, including the film Sweet Land (2005), which he also wrote.
