American actor, writer and director born in Portland, Maine, on August 14, 1881. Ford was married three times and had three children. He's known for Berlin Via America (1918), Crimson Shoals (1919) and The Purple Mask (1916). He appeared in nine Oscar Best Picture nominees, including A Star Is Born (1937) and In Old Chicago (1938). His brother is director John Ford, whom he acted in his films, like The Informer (1935). He died in 1953 of cancer, at age 72.
