He is an American writer, born on April 27, 1957, in the USA. He obtained his B.A. from Calvin College in 1979 and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1987. He was an associate professor at Columbia University, and he is a professor in the department of English at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is known for writing The Last Duel (2021) and Most Notorious! A True Crime History Podcast (2015).
