A Cypriot character actor in British films and television shows, born Nino Pastellides to a French mother and a Greek father, in Nicosia, Cyprus, on March 13, 1923. He married the musician Gloria George (1958-1976), and she stayed with him until his death. Among his notable works are The Mummy (1959), From Russia with Love (1963), Licensed to Kill (1965) and Department S (1969). He played the roles of villains, Eastern characters, priests, and spies. He also presented many voice works, and worked in the James Bond film series, and the Doctor Who franchise. He spent two years in the banking business, then joined the National Theatre of Greece when he was 21 years old, and after several years, he came to England, where he studied English, then graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He held dual British and American citizenship and was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and a theater teacher at the Pasadena Playhouse. After ending his film career in Britain, he worked in the musical theater with his wife. He died of a heart attack in Dade County, Florida, United States, on April 4, 1976, at age 53.
