A Japanese actor, born on September 1, 1929, in Fukagawa, Tokyo, Japan. His works include Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972), Shogun Assassin (1980), and Black Rain (1989). He was the brother of Shintaro Katsu. He is best known in Japan for playing Ogami Itto, the disgraced, grouchy, 17th-century ronin in six Kozure Ôkami (Lone Wolf and Cub) samurai films. Wakayama died on April 2, 1992, in Kyoto, Japan.
