A French-American actor, born in Algiers, Alger, France [now Algeria], as Louis Gabriel Mercier. In 1931, he married Ann Helen Doran, and their marriage ended in divorce. Among his most important works are Sahara (1943), Bulldog Drummond's Bride (1939), Jewels of Brandenburg...Read more (1947), and Tiger Rose (1929). Louis Mercier participated in a number of American silent films, starting with The Midnight Sun (1926), and he continued his film work after sound was introduced to films. He often played the roles of drivers, army men, waiters, investigators, and bartenders. He made his last appearance in the film The Other Side of Midnight (1977), and he appeared in many TV works. He died in Pasadena, California, USA, on March 25, 1993.
