An American actor, born in New York City, on March 16, 1903, and died in Los Angeles, California, on June 23, 1953. Among his most important works are Hell-Bent for Heaven (1926), Ladies at Ease (1927), and Captain Blood (1935). Gardner James began his career in the theater, and in 1922 he started appearing in silent films and sometimes played leading roles. His film debut was in Beyond the Rainbow (1922). In the late 1920s, he signed a contract with MGM, and he presented talkie, The Flying Fleet (1929). His final role was in Adventures of Red Ryder (1940). Gardner James died at the age of 50.
