• An English character actor, born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, United Kingdom. He studied at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Michael Ripper was married three...Read more times and had two children. Among his most important works are Quatermass and the Pit (1958-1959), Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), Butterflies (1978-1983), and The Mummy (1959). Michael Ripper’s father was a speech therapist and encouraged him to participate in diction and public speaking competitions, and at the age of 16 years, he won a scholarship to drama school, participated in amateur theatrical productions, then began appearing in professional theater until 1952, when he lost his voice due to thyroid surgery, so he focused his career on film work. He also worked as an assistant director with Walton Studios. Michael Ripper contracted with Hammer Film Productions for 25 years, and made 35 films with them, in which he played a variety of roles of authority figures in a comedic manner, and the roles of coachmen, peasants, tavern keepers, pirates, and sidekicks. After his work at Hammer ended, he focused his efforts extensively on television programs. Michael Ripper died in London, England, United Kingdom, on June 28, 2000, at the age of 87.
