He was a Canadian writer, born in Toronto, Ontario. His first writing credit was The Butler's Night Off (1951). His notable works include The Collector (1965), Firestarter (1984), and Conan the Destroyer (1984). His last work was Hanna's War (1988). He shared an Oscar nomination for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium for The Collector (1965). He passed away at the age of 87 on January 11, 2016 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
