She was a British actress, born on April 9, 1897, in Hull, Yorkshire, England. She was usually seen in hearty maternal roles or as gossipy neighbor. Her stage debut was in 'Concert Party' (1920), and her London debut was as a native in 'Aloma' at the Adelphi in 1926. Her notable works include The Family Way (1966), Watch It, Sailor! (1961), and The Good Companions (1957). She nominated for Broadway's 1965 Tony Award as Best Actress for "All in Good Time." She died on July 4, 1979, at the age of 82, in Hove, East Sussex, England.
