An American character actor, born in Lafayette, Indiana, USA, on October 12, 1889. He started his career during the silent era of cinema and worked in the sound era. His career lasted about 38 years. He first appeared in short films and worked in several film series. He played small comic roles due to his height, and sometimes uncredited roles, and in addition to acting, he was a writer and director. He married Mildred Ludmilla Pam (1914-1947) and she remained with him until his death. Among his notable works are The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944), King of the Wild (1931) and Sullivan's Travels (1941). He died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, on March 8, 1947.
