An American character actor, born as Harry V. Cheshire in Emporia, Kansas, USA. He often played bankers and western townspeople, but he also played villains. In the twenties and thirties, he was active in stage work. In 1940, he began his film career, which lasted 24 years, during which he appeared in more than 120 films, and he started working on television in the late forties. He married Myrtle Cheshire and they had two children. Among his notable works are The First Traveling Saleslady (1956), Dangerous Mission (1954), and Traffic in Crime (1946). He died in Orange County, California, USA, on June 16, 1968, at the age of 76.
