A large number of Egypt’s filmmakers organized a march which began at the gates of the Filmmakers’ Syndicate and proceeded to Tahrir Square. The march was organized in order to express solidarity with protesters at Tahrir and took place on Thursday the 10th of February, 2011. Filmmakers and actors pressed on their protest until their demands and the demands of the Egyptian public were answered with the ousting of President Hosny Mubarak. The march took place in response to a call that was issued by artists demonstrating at Tahrir on the 28th of January. Part of their message had read: “Filmmakers camped at Tahrir Square call on all the noble filmmakers, musicians, writers and intellectuals to join a procession which will begin in front of the Filmmakers’ Syndicate and make its way to Tahrir Square at noon on Thursday, the 10th of February.”A large number of performers took part in the procession the ranks of which had included Khaled el-Sawwy, ‘Amr Waked, Khaled Abou el-Nagga, Gehan Fadel, Maryam Na’oum, Yousra el-Lozy, Mohamed al-‘Adl, Bassma and filmmakers Dawoud ‘Abd al-Sayyid, Magdy Ahmed and Ahmed ‘Abd Allah. The march aimed to bolster the calls made by protesters which sought to oust President Mubarak and his corrupt regime in addition to prosecuting corrupt individuals and instituting a new regime that could provide honor, justice and freedom for the Egyptian people.
