The French Oscars: “Of Deities and Men” top the awards

Last night saw the announcement of the French Caesar Awards, widely considered to be the French equivalent to the American Oscars. French cinema title “Des hommes et des dieux” (“Of Dieties and Men”) which narrates the final days of an incident where seven monks found themselves besieged within an Algerian monastery during the late ‘90s received the award for best film. The same title had also received the grand jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May last year.Renowned director Roman Polanski was given the award for best director for his film “Ghost Writer”. The title features a plot where a former British prime minister hires a specialized ghostwriter to help him write his memoirs but reveals hidden secrets that are perhaps best kept uncovered.“The Social Network” was also honored at the events and received the award for best foreign title.
