The movie “Citizen Kane” that has recently been declared the best movie of the century, had in the past faced a lot of resistance and criticism. In 1941 when the movie came out, actor, director and scriptwriter of the movie Orson Welles did not at the time receive the appreciation he deserved for that iconic film. Instead, there were many campaigns aiming to bring it down, and the only award he received at the Oscars then was the award for best script. This award was recently displayed at an auction in the USA.In 1985 after Welles passed away the Oscar statue disappeared. It reappeared again in 1994 when an American photographer tried to sell it, claiming that Welles had given the statue to him to pay off his depts. After a long process in court Welles’s heirs finally retrieved the statue. The heirs organized a public auction in California and were able to sell it for 861.572 dollars.
