An Independence Day sequel in the works.

Script writer Dean Devlin spoke to "comingsoon" website that he wrote a script for a sequel for his 1996 "Independence Day" and he was paid for this project. Howeve, he added that after completing the script, he wasn't convinced by its story and believed that the fans and the first part cast and crew deserve a better sequel so he returned the payment and refused to sell the script.Devlin added that he was intensively pressured by many to make second part for a few years now, but he insisted to never start writing it unless he has a worthy story line and complete details. A recent telephone conversation between Devlin and film director Roland Emmerich took place when Roland asked him to try writing the sequel script again. On the other hand, "Independence Day" which won a Best Visual Effects Oscar in 1996 will be released again in 3D on 3 July 2013.
