“Wreck-It Ralph,” the animated flick from director Rich Moore, is leading the American box office and so far has grossed over $49.1 million in its first week. This is the third highest grossing opening this spring in the United States, after “Taken 2” and “Hotel Transylvania.” Internationally, Disney has made $12 million in six countries where the film opened this week. In second place comes Robert Zemeckis’ “Flight,” which has made over $25 million in its first week. The enormously talented Denzel Washington plays a veteran pilot who becomes a national hero after miraculously landing a nose-diving plane. His integrity is called into question when his alcoholism is exposed, casting a shadow over the unbelievable feat. “Argo,” Ben Affleck’s third film as director, has fallen back to third place since opening four weeks ago; it has grossed $10.2 million. New in cinemas, “The Man with the Iron Fists,” starring Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung, and Dave Bautista, is in fourth place with its earnings just reaching $8.2 million.Universal Pictures’ “Taken 2” has gone from sixth place last week to fifth and has earned an additional $6 million, bringing up the total to $125.6 million in its fifth week. Meanwhile, in just a week “Cloud Atlas” has fell from second to sixth place, and has grossed $5.2 million this week. The film stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaver, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant. “Hotel Transylvania” has also dropped from third to seventh place this week, adding $4.5 million to its total earnings of $137.5 million. Its producers should be happy—the success of the film has covered the cost of making it, which was $85 million. And lastly, in eighth place is “Paranormal Activity 4,” earning an additional $4.3 million in its third week. “Here Comes the Boom” has continued a steady drop, moving from seventh place to ninth this week, after earning $3.6 million. The horror film “Silent Hill: Revelation 3D” suffered the greatest blow, going from fifth to tenth place this week despite earning an addition $3.3 million.
