Rumors of Nicolas Cage joining the cast of “The Expendables 3” spread like wildfire earlier this week. To some fans dismay, however, Sylvester Stallone denied these reports on Tuesday, saying that he had “no knowledge” of Cage’s joining the project, according to Deadline. The seed of these rumors was a report in a Spanish newspaper that quoted Stallone as expressing excitement at Cage (and others) joining the cast for the third film. Stallone claims that his words were misconstrued. Additionally a Stallone fan page on Facebook confirmed the supposed announcement that Nicolas Cage would be joining the cast, which was then picked up by a slew of news outlets. To add fuel to the fire, last August, Expendables producer Avi Lerner revealed he was hoping to persuade Cage to take part in the third movie. He also mentioned he had his eyes on Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood for specific roles, but these ideas never developed into official negotiations. "The Expendables 3" does not yet have a release date, but will most likely have the same cast as the second film, which made over $289 million in the box office.
