A number of Hollywood events and programs have been canceled in light of the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut last Friday. On December 14, Adam Lanza shot and killed 28 people, including his mother, 20 school children, 6 teachers and lastly himself just as emergency responders were arriving at the school.

The Weinstein Company, the studio behind the upcoming "Django Unchained," has decided to cancel its Los Angeles premiere out of respect for the victims and those affected by the mass shooting. A Weinstein representative released a statement saying "our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Newtown, CT and in this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event." The company would be holding a private screening "for the cast and crew and their friends and families."

In a similar move earlier this week, Paramount Pictures decided to postpone two screenings of Tom Cruise's new sniper thriller "Jack Reacher."

The Tarantino-directed "Django Unchained" stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kerry Washington.
