" Man of Steel" has broken U.S. box office records, grossing a total of $125 million in its opening weekend. It's positioned to be the highest-grossing film of 2013, and according to Variety, ticket sales were noticeably boosted by Father's Day, celebrated in America on June 16. The Superman reboot surpassed Toy Story 3's record at $110.3 million in 2010.

"Man of Steel" looks at the origin story of the prototypical superhero, Superman, who is this go-round played by the curly-haired looker Henry Cavill. Co-starring are Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe, who play his adoptive father and alien birth father respectively.

It's no surprise "Man of Steel" is dominating the box office; it gets its script from the enormously capable Christopher Nolan, the mind behind " Inception" and " The Dark Knight." Nolan shares writing credits with David S. Goyer, and "Man of Steel" was directed by Zack Snyder.
