Today the critically acclaimed fugitive drama “ Mud” screened at the 13th Beirut International Film Festival. The film was part of Cannes’ official selection this year.

Matthew McConaughey stars, alongside Reese Witherspoon and Michael Shannon, as a man on the run trying to get back to his sweetheart with the help of a pair of teenage boys.

Also screening at the festival today is “Canned Dreams,” a documentary from Finnish directory Katjia Gauriloff about the factory workers, peeling back a layer of commercial invisibility surrounding the actual process and conditions of food production. She particularly hones in on a can-making operation in Brazil.

The film, which has come out to overwhelmingly positive reviews, brings the viewer face to face with workers, reflecting on their dismal working environments and personal lives alike. The director, who herself is a vegetarian, is quoted in the Huffington Post as saying, “Some people refuse to believe there is any blood in butchering. They think that animals just go to sleep, and that isn’t the case.”
