"Thor: The Dark World" Tops the U.S. Box Office for This Week

As expected “ Thor: The Dark World” tops theAmerican Box Office in its first week in thaters. The movie collected$86.1 million, showing in 3.841 theaters. It's the sequel of “Thor”who made a gross of $181 million in 2001. Thor is now trying torestore order to the universe with the help of Jane Foster afterMalekith's trials to destroy it. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddelstong with Anthony Hopkins as Odin.

Bad Grandpa” came second this weekkeeping its earlier position from last week. The movie was directedby Jeff Termaine and collected $11.3 million in its third week,pushing its gross to $78.7 million.

The animation movie “ Free Birds”made it to the third place coming from the fourth last week. Themovie collected $11.1 million in its second week in theaters. Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson are making the voices.“ Last Vegas” retreated to thefourth place, making $11.1 million.

The sci-fi feature “ Ender's Game”has fallen from the top of the list to the fifth this week with $10.2million followed by “ Gravity” which added $8.4 million to itsgross this week. “ 12 Years a Slave” remained in the seventhposition, collecting $6.6 million.

Captain Phillips” gained $5.8million this week from the American theaters, making it the eighth onthe list. The romantic comedy “ About Time” made it to the top tenthis week with $5.1 million in its second week of showing. At thebottom of the list is the animation movie “ Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2,” collecting $2.8 million in its seventh week, with agross of $109.9 million.
