Tarek Lotfy Rejects Homosexual Role in 'Garimat Qatl'

In an interview with , Tarek Lotfy revealed the real reason behind his rejection of the role hewas offered in the TV series ' Garimat Qatl' (Murder Crime) oppositeLebanese star Haifa Wahbi, clarifying that he was offered the role ofa homosexual character. He stated that he is totally against playingsuch roles, specially when they do not carry a certain message to theaudience through the show.

Lotfy mentioned that he had alreadysigned a contract to join the series' cast after being briefed bydirector Mohamed Samy that his role was that of a “playboy,” andowner of a nightclub, who is married and has children.

Lotfy added that he was surprised withhis role after reading the final draft scripts to the first fourepisodes, as he found that his character is gay. He was thensuspicious when he found that Samy insisted on shooting the firstepisode as quickly as possible, although only four episodes were donein writing, and that he (Lotfy) wasn't given any idea on why thisrole was there and what was the point behind it.

Hussein El Emam was passed the roleinstead, after Tarek backed off. The series stars Haifa Wahbi, Maged El Masry, Rojina, Ahmed Zaher, Ammar Chalak, Mai Omar, and Ahmed Malek, and is directed by Mohamed Samyand written by Mohamed Amien Rady.
