Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead inside his rented apartment in the city of New York, at 46 years of age.

Forensic research is now ongoing, although principal investigations made by the police report that The Master star has died of an apparent drug overdose, as a syringe was found in his arm and, nearby, an envelop containing heroin.

The 2006 Oscar-winning star the victim of an “internet death hoax” a few days before his actual death, which turned out to be a hoax itself, traced to the satirical website Mediamass.net which fooled news outlets such as the Daily Mail into reporting the Hoffman death hoax.

Hoffman, father of three, was long known to struggle with addiction, and in May of 2013, he checked into a rehabilitation program for about 10 days after a reliance on prescription pills resulted in his briefly turning again to heroin.
