Engineer Ibrahim Mahleb confirmed in a discussion on the TV program “El ‘Ashera Mesa’an” (10 O’Clock at Night) that he had not issued any decision to ban the television series “The People of Alexandria,” despite recent rumors. Mahleb explained that he believes in freedom of art and expression, and that the government is not responsible for the decision made by the Hayaat and Mihwar TV stations to not air the show.

Mahleb added that he had only objected to the show’s storyline, which addresses corruption among police officers before the January 25 Revolution. He sees that the relationship between citizens and the police has recently improved, thus it is not currently the appropriate time to address this issue.

Mahleb stressed his belief in the freedom of art and creativity, especially considering his role as the Prime Minister of Protecting Society.

Mahleb recently sparked debate after issuing a decision to ban the show“Rouh's Beauty"after it was shown for two weeks in cinemas.
