When her brother is sentenced to life in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Betty Anne Waters goes through the ultimate struggle to prove his innocence.

This title is a drama directed by Tony Goldwyn. Hilary Swank stars in the leading role as Betty Anne Waters. Sam Rockwell and Minnie Driver also star in supporting roles. The film is based on the true story of the wrongful murder conviction of Kenneth Waters (Sam Rockwell). The story’s unlikely heroine is Betty Anne Waters (Hillary Swank), an unemployed single mother of two children. In 1983 Betty’s brother, Kenneth, was wrongfully convicted of murder and robbery and was handed a verdict of life in prison. Rather than see her brother locked-up for life for the wrong reasons Betty spends the best part of her youth earning a law degree so that she could challenge her brother’s conviction in court. Betty’s efforts are not in vain. Through sheer determination she finally manages to legitimately overturn her brother’s conviction by presenting DNA evidence that proves his innocence. Almost twenty years after his wrongful imprisonment, Kenneth Waters walks out a free man.
