Bertram Pincus is an surly، introverted man who hates interacting with others and spends most of his time working at his dentistry office. But his life gets turned upside down when he comes face to face with his own death. After he wakes up and returns to full health, he is informed that his heart had completely stopped for seven full minutes. Pincus discovers that during his brush with death, he gained the ability to see and talk with ghosts. He soon finds himself being pursued by all the ghosts of New York, each wanting him to help them with some unresolved issue from their lives. The most insistent of the ghosts is Frank, who wants Pincus to get to know his widow Gwen and stop her from marrying Richard, a lawyer who is only after her money.
