Things weren't simple in the 1970s, and young black Americans like Jim Ellis, an undergraduate, struggled to find employment. He accepts menial work at a spa because of his passion for competitive swimming. After fixing an abandoned swimming pool and inviting several black teens to swim at the facility one day, Jim makes the decision to start the first all-black swim team in the community.
