The Second Episode

Ali tries to help an Armenian girl he loves, which upsets his father, who asks him to stay away from her. After Napoleon manages to reach Alexandria with his men, Koraim Bey sends to Murad Bey in Cairo asking him to provide him with soldiers, so Murad asks his men to unite and confront the French.

He appoints Kléber as governor of Alexandria and Menou over the city of Rosetta before he meets Murad Bey in Damanhour.

Hassan leaves with his wife Ward, accompanied by his father, Abdul Rahman, his mother and sister, but bandits attack them and kidnap their son Salim.

Sheikh al-Sharqawi meets General Dupuy with the state senior officials, asking to release the Mamluk captives and to choose a delegate from among them; they choose Mr. Fart El Ruman.

Koraim Bey is executed by firing squad. Mrs. Nafisa finds Ruqayya's children. Al-Azhar sheikhs demonstrate against the taxes imposed by the French. Nafisa receives Napoleon, who presents her with Dr. Desgenettes's book about the plague; Nafisa thanks him for what he has given the people of Egypt.

The military governor, Dupuy, accuses Nafisa of helping Murad Bey, imprisons her, then releases her.

Napoleon and his friends celebrate their victory and he tries to celebrate with the people of Mahrousa, but they revolt against him and succeed in killing Dupuy, which angers Napoleon, who decides to take revenge on them after they looted Caffarelli's house. Many people are dead and wounded among Egyptians.

A quarrel occurrs between the people and Sheikh al-Sharqawi when he tries to talk to them. Then he goes, accompanied by the sheikhs, to Napoleon, trying to persuade him to cease fire. Napoleon breaks the armistice, opens fire, declares war on the whole land, and his soldiers enter Al-Azhar with horses.

As Napoleon decides to get out of Al-Azhar, the rest of the sheikhs are released as Sheikh al-Sharqawi begged him to, in exchange for the sheikhs' pledge not to revolt again. Menou is upset with Napoleon's occupation of Egypt despite signs of dissent in the army.

The Egyptians try to unite again, especially after the Turks united with them to fight the French led by Kléber. As Ali helps in that, he donates weapons to the people, but the French are stronger. Kléber's army meets with Murad Bey's army in Giza, and the French are able to put down the uprising.

As Kléber and his army are still killing the Egyptians, Murad Bey sends a message to him asking for a ceasefire; Kléber accepts. The Turks decide to leave, but the Egyptians refuse and attack them. Nafisa is upset about Murad's reaction to her and the removal from office. Kléber offers Murad Bey to rule Upper Egypt.

Kléber claims that the British prevented their withdrawal from Egypt and that the Turks paid for it. As the Egyptians and the French exchange fire, the Bulaq neighborhood is exterminated; Ali and the men try to aid the injured. Smith pledges to the Grand Vizier to secure a safe exit for the French from Egypt.
