In 1990 South Africa, two significant events are about to happen. The first is the release of Nelson Mandela, and the second, and more important, is John Milton AKA Spud's first year at a private boys' school. Spud belongs to an eccentric, middle-class family and was able to win a scholarship to this school, and tries to get used to the new world he's just now discovering.
