Blanche, Dorothy, and Rose share a house in Miami, Florida. As Blanche prepares to get married to Harry, he turns out to be a bigamist. After her retirement home burns down, Dorothy's mother, Sophia, moves in with the three women.

As Dorothy's daughter prepares to get married, Dorothy has an unpleasant encounter with her ex-husband Stanley, who left her for a younger woman after their 38 years of marriage.

As Rose develops a romantic relationship with Arnie, she goes with him on a cruise but she feels uncomfortable with getting intimate with him. Dorothy and Sophia face off over a cards game.

Blanche's sister, Virginia, pays her a surprise visit, which leaves Blanche reeling as she asks Blanche to donate her kidney to her because she suffers from renal failure.

Dorothy and Blanche have a falling out after Dorothy's doctor boyfriend flirts with Blanche. Rose decides to step in and fix the situation.

The arrival of Blanche's grandson David causes chaos as he has no respect for rules. The girls give him tasks to do, and try to compensate for his parents' negligence.

Sophia spends time with her ex-fiancé who asks her to go back to Sicily with him. Rose shows her competitive side as she enters a bowling tournament with the girls.

The girls are shaken following a burglary at the house. As they install a new security system, Rose and Blanche encounter an incident as the alarm goes off.

Rose's mother Alma's visit causes tension between her and Rose. Blanche goes out on a date with her much younger aerobics instructor.

After a dinner party, Sophia starts feeling sick. She thinks that she's having a heart attack but the doctor reassures her that she was only having gallbladder pain from overeating.

Dorothy's ex-husband, Stan, comes to visit and attempts to get back with her, but she does not think it will work out.

Blanche and Rose's friendship is strained after Rose receives a lead role in the play of Macbeth, which Blanche was eager to get. When Dorothy's wealthy sister, Gloria, comes to visit, she invites Sophia to come live with her in California.

Rose is embarrassed to tell the girls that she's dating a small man (dwarf) named Jonathan. Rose is excited as she suspects that Jonathan will propose to her, but she gets an unpleasant surprise.

Dorothy continues to see a gym teacher in spite of the fact that he's married, but the girls convince her to end it. Rose wants to buy Blanche's old car, as the latter wants to get a new car instead.

Rose feels that she's cursed after her boyfriend Al dies of a heart attack in her bed, as it turns out that her late husband also died the same way.

As Rose shares the details of her will with her daughter, she reveals that there is not much left, which causes her daughter to be angry at her.

When Blanche's niece Lucy comes to visit, the girls object to her philandering behavior, which forces Blanche to confront her. Dorothy is dealing with a mouse issue in the kitchen.

Dorothy learns to face her fear, following a foot injury which she was too scared to have treated. After Dorothy is unable to do a dance routine, Rose and Blanche perform it as a duo.

Blanche is having second thoughts after a wealthy man who has two kids asks her to marry him. Rose and Dorothy test their plumbing skills.

Dorothy and the girls face trouble with the law when they attempt to resell tickets to Frank Sinatra's concert. A teacher at Blanche's night school offers to give her an A in his class if she sleeps with him.

As the girls all come down with the flu, they insist on attending an event in spite of being ill.

After she loses her job as a grief-counselor, Rose struggles to find another job. The girls advise her to "embellish the truth" in her job interviews. Dorothy gets an unpleasant surprise as she runs into an old sweetheart.

When Rose's blind sister Lily comes to visit, she asks Rose to come live with her, but Rose advises her to find ways to deal with her condition. The girls try to raise money by holding a garage sale to buy a new TV.

Blanche's father has a shocking announcement to make when he comes to visit. Dorothy quarrels with the neighbors over storm damage.

The girls look back at how they first met, when Rose and Dorothy answered a bulletin ad that Blanche placed at a grocery store.
