In New York, in 1943, a luxurious restaurant is set up where a young immigrant Sicilian faces a troubled love story. Arturo is a 35 year old man who barely speaks English, falls in love with Flora, Alfredo's niece, who is the restaurant’s owner. Arturo and Flora fiercely fall in love, and dream about getting married, but they want the blessing of her father. Without any arrangements, Arturo joins the US Army and heads for Sicily where Flora's father live
