After learning of his father's passing, Kolappa is tortured by the idea of burying his father's remains in his village, which has been torn apart by a religious conflict. The majority caste's followers force a Dalit from the minority caste to carry his father's body and take it down a treacherous, unpaved road to an unknown graveyard.
