Bigger Thomas is a young African-American man who lives with his parents in Chicago. As he moves into the home of wealthy businessman, Henry Dalton, to become the family’s live-in chauffeur, Bigger becomes more involved in the social life of Dalton’s unorthodox daughter, Mary, and her boyfriend. It is through fear of acceptance and a feeling of shame that Bigger’s life takes a severe downturn.
