In the wake of a civil war, a dystopian society called Gilead takes over what was once the US and establish strict rules that build on the subjugation of women. Women who rebel against the regime are made into concubines who bear children for childless government officials.



In a dystopian future, the US has turned into a religious autocracy and anyone trying to escape is swiftly punished. When June is caught while trying to escape, she is made a concubine whose job is to bear children for childrenless government officials.
