At the same time that Ernest Worrell works as a cab driver, Santa Claus comes to Orlando to find the person he has chosen to be his successor. With Ernest's help, he and Santa make one last attempt to save Christmas.
The life of the dim-witted Ernest turns upside down after a scheme lands him in prison in the stead of Mr. Nash, a crime boss who looks just like Ernest. As Mr. Nash uses Ernest's job as a bank janitor to plan a heist, Ernest finds himself on death row.
