In Texas in the 1920s, Indian farmer Charley Eagle dreams of winning the Kentucky Derby with his horse Black Hope. He meets the orphaned Chinese boy, who dreams of going to the United States and promises to help him. However, things change when oil is found on his land and a colt named Black Gold is born, which gives him hope of winning the race.
