Jonathan Liebsman is a South African director and writer. He was born in 1976 in the city of Johannesburg. He studied film directing in South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance. In 1996, he flew to New York to visit his uncle, who has been studying there, and he eventually decided to enroll at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. While studying, Jonathan co-wrote and directed an 8-minute short film, Genesis and Catastrophe, adapted from a Roald Dahl short story. The film was screened at numerous festivals around the world, and was winner of the best short at the Austin Film Festival in 2000. In 2003, Liebsman directed his debut feature “Darkness Falls”. He then went on to direct several films, and became most known for directing the 2011 military science fiction war film “Battle: Los Angeles”, “Wrath of the Titans” (2012) and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (2014).
