An Egyptian film critic, researcher and historian, born in 1946. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Ain Shams University in 1966, then a postgraduate diploma from the Higher Institute of Art Criticism in 1975. He is a member of the Egyptian Film Critics Association since 1972, and a member of the New Cinema Group since 1971. He participated in many jury committees in the Egyptian and Arab film festivals and the international jury committees of the International Federation of Critics (Fepresi). He wrote for dozens of publications in Egypt and the Arab world. He translated many studies and articles on cinema, and some of his research and studies were translated into English and French. He has more than twenty published books, most notably “The Magic of Cinema” ,"Classics of Egyptian Cinema" three parts and "Cinema and Politics". Among his works: The Past (1997) and The Traveller (2010).
